A blog for all lovers of film!

About/A Few Words on Ratings

My name is Graeme, and welcome to Film Positivity, a blog all about trying to think through the reasons I love film, whether that’s specific films or films in general. There will be essays and deep-dives on films or topics I have a particular passion for, as well as shorter reviews on films or media I have really enjoyed recently.

Really this is just for my own entertainment, I like to think about films, but if others out there read it and get something out of it too then all the better. Inevitably I’ll look back in a few years and think “What the hell was I talking about?”, but who knows? Maybe I’ll say at least one thing that isn’t complete nonsense.

If you would like to get in touch about collaborating on a piece, or would like me to write something for your website (or vice-versa!), please don’t hesitate to contact me at:

A Few Words on Ratings

Thought it would be handy to break down what ratings here mean, on a scale of 1-10:

  • 1: Irredeemably Bad
  • 2: Terrible
  • 3: Very Bad
  • 4: Bad
  • 5: Average/Okay
  • 6: Good
  • 7: Very Good
  • 8: Great
  • 9: Magnificent
  • 10: Near Perfect/An All Time Favourite

So, just keep in mind, 6 or 7 out of 10 is a pretty good score, and usually means a film is well worth watching. 8 and above is relatively rare, for me…
